CARBON FOOTPRINT

 

 

 

Emissions of greenhouse gases are among the primary causes of global pollution.

 

Nonno Nanni is committed historically to the cause of sustainability, and once again this year has calculated and offset its Carbon Footprint, a measurement that reflects the total emissions of greenhouse gases — direct and indirect — associated with the production of: Nonno Nanni Stracchino 125 g, Nonno Nanni Stracchino with probiotic milk ferments 125 g, Nonno Nanni Squaquerello 250 g and Nonno Nanni Robiola 100 g.

 

The Carbon Footprint was calculated taking into account the entire production chain, considering both direct equivalent CO2 emissions generated during actual production of the cheese, and indirect emissions occurring upstream (for example during milk production on dairy farms) and downstream (consumption and end of life cycle).

Calculation of the Carbon Footprint was conducted according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and validated by CSQA Certificazioni Srl.

 

Nonno Nanni has initiated actions designed to offset the quantity of greenhouse gas emitted and calculated as noted above, contributing to environmental sustainability initiatives, one in Italy and another abroad; the company has also taken steps to reduce levels of energy consumption in its production plant.

RESPECT FOR ANIMALS

Nonno Nanni has built solid relationships with the local farmers, promoting sustainable farming through continuous veterinary supervision and strict compliance with standards and regulations on animal welfare.

ENERGY SAVING

Nonno Nanni carefully monitors water and energy consumption to minimise waste, whilst ensuring efficient production within the plants.

WASTE MANAGEMENT AND RECYCLABLE PACKAGING

In recent years, Nonno Nanni has doubled the amount of waste recycling in its facilities. This commitment to reduce waste continues with the use of special packaging, which includes 100% recyclable inner trays.

COGENERATOR

Energy at Nonno Nanni is provided by a 1 MW output methane electricity cogeneration plant.The cogenerator uses the heat produced by its own motor to heat the factory areas and preheat water used for milk pasteurisation.

BIOLOGICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT

Manufacturing effluent is sent to a biological treatment plant, and by-products are recycled in agriculture.

PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER PLANT

Energy is also generated by a 5,000 m2 photovoltaic power plant installed on the roof of Nonno Nanni’s gnocchi production plant.
